Joint Media Release with Member for Gilmore Ann Sudmalis MP
Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, and Federal Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis have today announced funding of $28,435 to the Shellharbour Aboriginal Community Youth Association to develop and implement a business plan for a nursery in Killalea State Park.
The project, which Minister Scullion said would help engage local Indigenous people in worthwhile training and activities, is being funded from the Australian Government’s Jobs, Land and Economy Programme.
“The Jobs, Land and Economy Programme provides funding to organisations to deliver projects that support social and economic development, and participation in communities such as Shellharbour,” Minister Scullion said.
“The Programme also assists service providers, employers and community organisations to create new jobs and deliver rewarding community activities.”
Mrs Sudmalis congratulated the Manager of Killalea on the announcement as the project is a perfect fit for the region, alongside other local projects such as the Killalea Green Army and the Work for the Dole trial.
“This project is all about involving our local Indigenous residents in a project that teaches real life business and planning skills,” Mrs Sudmalis said
“This is as much about showing support for local Indigenous development as it is about the Government investing in the potential of Gilmore, and I welcome this project with open arms.
“Some of the things participants in the programme will be involved in include examining market potential, commercial sales of product, risk analysis, marketing, financial modelling, labour market requirements, cost analysis and operational requirements.
“The four phases of the project will be: development of a business plan; develop corporate governance and business structures; identify employment and training needs; and provide business support and mentoring to assist in the implementation of the business plan,” Mrs Sudmalis concluded.
