A Coalition Government will provide up to $500,000 towards a Cancer Support Clinic at the Katherine Hospital, Country Liberals’ candidate for Lingiari Tina MacFarlane, Senator Nigel Scullion and Leader of the Nationals Warren Truss announced today.
“This funding will provide a chemotherapy chair, fit out and staff training at the Katherine Hospital to treat patients rather than have them travel to Darwin for treatment,” Mrs MacFarlane said.
“This will help ease the anxiety and stress on people fighting cancer who have to travel the 650km trip to Darwin, sometimes for only a 15 minute injection.
“It will ease the burden on the patient and their family members, given the additional costs, time off work and travel required during such a traumatic time,” she said.
“I want to thank Tina MacFarlane, Country Liberal candidate for Lingiari, for her strong support. She has argued hard for this project because she knows just how important is for the people of Katherine,” Mr Truss said.
“The Coalition will deliver better health services to the people of the Katherine region and all the bush area of Lingiari,” he said.
