Joint Media Release with Member for Solomon Natasha Griggs MP
Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion and Federal Member for Solomon, Natasha Griggs, have welcomed 2015/16 Budget figures which show funding for Northern Territory Hospitals will increase by a massive 29% over forward estimates, on top of a 17% spike this financial year.
“The Coalition Government is absolutely committed to providing quality health care for Territorians,” Senator Scullion said.
“I am pleased to see that Health Minister Sussan Ley has said that health initiatives in this year’s budget will include a focus on supporting regional, rural and Indigenous health services.
“The budget also shows hospital funding in the Northern Territory is increasing substantially under the Coalition Government.”
Mrs Griggs said the health budget boost for the NT showed the Abbott Government had not forgotten Territorians.
“There has been a lot of rumour and a lot of ill-informed reporting over the last few days, but the numbers don’t lie,” Mrs Griggs said.
Major capital works on Northern Territory health infrastructure are also in the pipeline, with the Northern Territory Government investing $40 million in upgrades to Royal Darwin Hospital and head works on the $150 million Palmerston Regional Hospital underway.
“For all the fear mongering and muck racking, the proof is in the pudding.” Mrs Griggs said.
“A 116 bed, fully funded, state of the art hospital is on the way for Palmerston, Royal Darwin is getting a $40 million facelift and operational funding is increasing by nearly a third.”
