Joint Media Release with Country Liberals Candidate for Lingiari Jacinta Price
The Hermannsburg Historic Precinct is set to benefit from improved infrastructure and promotion, thanks to funding from the Coalition Government.
Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, and CLP Candidate for Lingiari, Jacinta Price, announced the Hermannsburg Historical Society Inc. will receive $176,000 for the Hermannsburg Historic Precinct Interpretation Plan and Implementation.
“The Hermannsburg Historic Precinct not only is listed on our National Heritage List, but also is a local icon,” Senator Scullion said.
“It has long been a part of the story of our region and this funding will support the Centre community’s efforts to promote it.”
Ms Price said the funding will go to developing an interpretation plan for the Hermannsburg Historic Precinct, including state of the art infrastructure, brochures, information sequencing and a software app for self-guided tours.
“National Heritage places like the Hermannsburg Historic Precinct enrich us culturally,” Ms Price said.
“They also enrich us by bringing people to our region to see, hear and touch the heritage on display.
“We want to keep the history alive at the Hermannsburg Historic Precinct and sometimes need help to do so.”
“I am delighted to see the Northern Territory share in this funding.”
Over the last six years, the Coalition Government has invested $32 million in historic places on our National Heritage List.
In the recent budget, a new flagship national heritage program providing up to $5.3 million in grants each year was also announced.
