Labor Leadership ballot will not resolve Labor leadership crisis
February 26th, 2012Joint Media Release:
Senator Nigel Scullion & Natasha Griggs MP
Federal Member for Solomon Natasha Griggs and Senator Nigel Scullion said the Labor leadership crisis demonstrates that the Gillard Government is focused on itself rather than the issues facing the residents of the Northern Territory.
“All Australians have been embarrassed by the spectacle of the past week”, said Mrs Griggs.
“I have spoken to many Territorians over the past few days and it is clear they are disheartened by the behaviour of the members of the government.
“Today’s result will not change anything. Labor will still be divided and dysfunctional. Territory families and businesses will still be hit by a carbon tax, the boats will still keep coming and the cost of living facing Territory families will only get worse.”
Senator Scullion said it was clear Julia Gillard and her colleagues were more focused on saving their own jobs than on protecting the jobs of Territorians.
“From the telephone calls, emails and conversations I have received, it is clear people want an end to the instability. They want certainty and they want an election,” said Senator Scullion.
“We are a great country and we are being let down by a bad government.
“The Coalition will restore hope, reward and opportunity for all Territorians while Labor wll just focus on itself.”
