Improved facilities for Alice Springs schools
January 30th, 2015Joint Media Release with Senator the Hon Scott Ryan, Parliamentary Secretary To The Minister For Education And Training
Two Alice Springs schools will soon have improved sporting and wheelchair facilities after being named as recipients of Australian Government grants of $124,195.
The grants, awarded as part of the Capital Grants Programme (CGP), will go towards projects at Araluen Christian College and Living Waters Lutheran School.
Funding of $106,015 will go towards construction of a hard court facility to support physical education and the sports program at Araluen Christian College while a grant of $18,180 to Living Waters Lutheran School will see the cementing of the school entrance to allow unrestricted wheelchair access to the school, and a new disability ramp for access to the music/drama room built.
Senator for the Northern Territory Nigel Scullion congratulated the schools on receiving the grants.
“These funds will ensure students at these two Alice Springs schools have the infrastructure necessary to help them get the most out of their time at school,” Senator Scullion said.
“While buildings alone do not make a school, students at these two schools will benefit when these enhanced facilities are complete.”
Senator the Hon Scott Ryan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education, said the CGP provides funding for non-government schools to improve capital infrastructure where they otherwise may not have access to sufficient resources.
“The Australian Government is committed to improving the quality of our school education and ensuring students are equipped with the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive world,” Senator Ryan said.
“The Government believes in an education system that puts students first. A quality education gives young people the opportunity to achieve personal success and contribute to our nation.”
