The Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, said today that the Commonwealth is focused on the provision of the most effective service delivery for Indigenous communities and is not cutting municipal and essential services.
“Labor’s Alannah MacTiernan continues the ill-informed and misleading approach of Labor.
“Labor in Government tried, but failed, to transition the responsibility for municipal and essential services to the states, where it belongs.
“The Commonwealth Government is providing support for states to assist them to meet their responsibilities in this area, something they do for every other town and city in their states.
“This Government has established three clear priorities in Indigenous Affairs; getting children to school, adults into work and ensuring communities are safe.
“Our approach means we can work with communities to put in place activities that address local issues and reduce bureaucratic control by supporting state governments to meet their responsibilities.
“Has Labor backed away from a policy they supported in Government? Do they believe that state governments should treat their Aboriginal residents differently to white communities in their states?”
