Mr Booth Senior – an enduring legacy for Binjari

The Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, has paid tribute to Mr Booth Senior, a highly respected Warramunga elder who recently passed away in Binjari.

“Mr Booth Snr dedicated his life to building the Binjari community and ensuring it prospered,” Minister Scullion said.

“He worked tirelessly for his community and should be commended for the important role he played in the construction of housing and a clinic for the community.

“The respect for his leadership was reflected by his role as president of the Binjari Community Government Council for many years.

“Mr Booth Snr’s work and life was recognised in 2012 when he was named NAIDOC Elder of the Year and given a Lifetime Achievement Award for his role in establishing Binjari and the work he undertook strongly advocating for Binjari’s residents.”

A memorial to honour Mr Booth Snr was held in Binjari today.

Minister Scullion extended his sincere condolences to the Booth family and the Binjari community as they pay their respects to a great man.
