The historic Galiwin’ku Church has been restored after damage by Tropical Cyclones Lam and Nathan in 2015.
“The church is a vital part of the Galiwin’ku community with the funding to restore it coming from the jointly-funded Commonwealth-Territory Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) as part of a $5 million community recovery fund,” Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, said.
“The Galiwin’ku community chose the church as a key community resource they wanted restored as part of the recovery from the 2015 cyclones.
“The Galiwin’ku Church restoration was identified as one of the high priority projects under the Community Recovery Fund following consultations with the community.”
“I am sure the community is delighted with the re-opening of the church today so it can again play an important role in Galiwin’ku.
“The total project cost for restoring the church was $246,542 with the Australian Government contributing 50 per cent — $123, 271,” Senator Scullion said.
