The Coalition Government has committed $1.4 million to a grants round supporting Australian communities to celebrate the culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians during NAIDOC week this year.
Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Senator the Hon Nigel Scullion said NAIDOC Week provides all Australians the opportunity to gather, celebrate and advance the culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“NAIDOC Week is a special occasion for us all and is an opportunity to focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their history, their lives today and their contribution to modern Australia.
“The Coalition Government supports stronger communities and is committed to working with local groups, councils and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to come together and celebrate the unique history and culture of our nation.
“I encourage communities and individuals all around Australia to embrace NAIDOC Week and celebrate all that’s great about our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their culture and heritage.
“Our grants round opening today will support community celebrations across the country,” Minister Scullion said.
