Councils in Lingiari will receive $3.5 million in payments this quarter under the Australian Government’s Financial Assistance Grant programme.
This is the third of four instalments the councils will receive this financial year that they can allocate according to local priorities.
Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, said without the Financial Assistance Grant programme, residents could be paying higher council rates for the same or lower levels of service.
“The Financial Assistance Grant programme is a welcome boost to our local councils which can use the grants to fund community initiatives and essential local infrastructure,” Senator Scullion said.
