Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, wants everyone to celebrate National Families Week and honour the central role that families play in our lives and our communities.
National Families Week runs from tomorrow, 15 to 21 May and has the theme ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities’. The United Nations International Day of Families is also on 15 May.
Senator Scullion said the week allowed us to reflect on the families who supported Territory children to grow up happy, healthy and strong.
“National Families Week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the important role that families play as the central building blocks of our communities,” Senator Scullion said.
“The diverse range of families in Australia contribute to making our communities richer and stronger.
“The Coalition Government, through the Department of Social Services, will provide more than $117 billion to support and improve the lifetime wellbeing of people and families in Australia this financial year.
“A further $652 million was provided in 2017-18 under the Families and Communities programme, which includes children and parenting support, settlement grants and emergency relief.
“The Coalition Government invests significantly in programs that support children and families, including parenting programmes and family relationship services.”
This week, more than 100,000 people will participate in National Families Week events around the country. To find an event near you, visit https://nfw.org.au/find-an-event/.
