Joint Media Release with Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash
- $150,000 Coalition Government investment to TIO Traeger Park Stadium extends viewing balcony
- The project is a win for fans of AFL, Imparja Cup and interstate cricket matches.
- More community functions can now be held at the Stadium.
The viewing balcony at TIO Traeger Park Stadium in Alice Springs has been extended, further improving the stadium known as “the jewel in the centre”.
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said TIO Traeger Park Oval had a long history of attracting national and international sports events to Alice Springs.
“I’m a massive sports fan and this extension allows more people in the region to enjoy national sporting events such as the AFL and interstate cricket matches,” Minister Nash said.
“This $150,000 investment by the Coalition Government involved extending the existing viewing balcony adjacent to the corporate lounge, which will also attract corporate functions to big sporting events.”
Minister for Indigenous Affairs and Country Liberals Senator for Northern Territory Nigel Scullion said the upgrade was a major boost for the Central Australian community.
“The stadium has hosted major sporting events, including AFL and NRL games, the Imparja Cup, and national and international cricket fixtures – and I am confident the stadium upgrade will help to make the venue an attractive option for these events into the future,” Senator Scullion said.
“The stadium also caters for local Australian rules football and cricket and the upgrade will encourage more local residents to attend these games.
“Importantly, the upgrade has provided all-ability access to the stadium to ensure all members of the community can enjoy the facility.
“The extension will also provide opportunities for the venue to be used for corporate and social functions and other community uses.”
