The Coalition Government is working to assist Ichthys LNG Project workers being made redundant by Laing O’Rourke.
Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, said the assistance would help workers to get back in the workforce as quickly as possible.
“I am very concerned about the Laing O’Rourke workers impacted by these redundancies, and the government, JKC and INPEX are working to assist those affected to help them find new employment as quickly as possible,” Senator Scullion said.
“The Department of Employment has a rapid response team on the ground in Darwin working closely with INPEX, Laing O’Rourke and the workers impacted by the recent redundancies.”
“We have provided detailed information packages to workers and are working with the Northern Territory Government and other government agencies to provide a coordinated response.”
The Government will conduct information sessions specifically targeted to connect retrenched workers with a wide range of support services.
Workers affected can access to the ‘What’s Next’ website, www.whatsnext.employment.gov.au, which provides a range of information and self-help resources to get them back on a pathway to new employment quickly.
Those who are seeking information about the support available to them can call the Employment Services Information Line on 13 62 68.
Workers who are worried about their finances can talk to Financial Information Services Officers at Centrelink about managing their finances after redundancy by calling 132 300.
