Members of the ex-service community in the Top End are being encouraged to attend a free course to learn more about suicide prevention.
Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, said an Operation Life half-day workshop would be held in Darwin on 4 April.
A two-day workshop will also be held in Darwin on 30-31 May.
“Operation Life workshops are run by the Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) to equip participants with the tools to recognise suicidal tendencies and to intervene before it is too late,” Senator Scullion said.
“Anyone in our community who has an interest in suicide prevention and supporting our veterans is encouraged to attend.
“If some becomes at risk of suicide it’s important to know that help is available and treatment does work.”
To express interest in the Operation Life Suicide Prevention Workshops, or to receive more information, visit the VVCS website or call 1800 011 046.
“The services provided by VVCS are vitally important – VVCS saves lives,” Senator Scullion said.
“For anyone who has served for at least one day in the ADF, the Coalition Government has also made mental health treatment free for the following conditions: post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety and drug and alcohol misuse conditions.”
VVCS also provides free, confidential, nationwide counselling and support for eligible current and former ADF members and their families 24/7 on 1800 011 046.
