Minister for Indigenous Affairs Nigel Scullion has today welcomed the appointment of Marion Scrymgour as CEO of the Northern Land Council (NLC).
“Marion has served Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Territorians over a number of decades and is a good choice of leader to take charge of the NLC at this crucial time in the organisation’s history,” Minister Scullion said.
“Marion’s experience as a Senior Cabinet Minister and Deputy Chief Minister in the Northern Territory Government, as well as her more recent roles as CEO of Wurli Wurlinjang Aboriginal Corporation and CEO of the Tiwi Islands Regional Council, gives me the greatest confidence in her capacity to serve the NLC and its members and communities.
“The NLC is one of the most important organisations in the Territory and has a critical role representing Aboriginal people in the Top End and delivering better outcomes for Indigenous communities.
“This is a significant appointment and the first time a woman has been appointed to this important role in any of the four land councils.
“I congratulate the leadership of the full Council under its chair Samuel Bush-Blanasi for the decision.
“I look forward to working with Marion in the next few months in my remaining time as Minister,” Minister Scullion said today.
