The Gunner Labor Government has proven again it’s not up to the job and can’t read a budget.
The Commonwealth budget confirms up to $216 million will be provided for Kakadu and the Budget papers clearly state funding will start to flow from 2018-19, this financial year. The Budget forecast is for up to $150 million to be delivered over the next four years, which underlines our commitment to the people of the Northern Territory. This means almost 70 per cent of the funding will be delivered over the next four years. Nicole Manison’s claim there is no money in this year’s budget is a complete lie.
The Morrison Government’s commitment includes up to $70 million for road upgrades, over $50 million for Park infrastructure upgrades, $35 million for asbestos remediation in Jabiru and up to $60 million for a new Kakadu Visitor Centre in Jabiru. This is a significant investment in NT tourism and jobs, which has been fully paid for in the 2019-20 Budget.
In contrast, the hopeless Gunner Labor Government is yet to commit any funding to Kakadu National Park and Jabiru.
The Morrison Government’s decade long investment in Kakadu is rolling out from this year after decisions were made in MYEFO, however as the funding has already been provided for by the Government, the Budget papers show no financial impact. That is how Budget accounting works.
When the Gunner Labor Government doesn’t even know how to read a budget paper it is no wonder they are sending the Territory broke, killing jobs and destroying the economy. This is just a taste of what the Territory could expect from Bill Shorten and federal Labor.
Territorians deserve better.
