Joint Media Release with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Leader of The Nationals The Hon Michael McCormack MP
Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, is urging the Northern Territory Government to apply for a share of $500 million in funding as part of the Australian Government’s expanded capital component of the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund, with applications open.
Senator Scullion said the NT Government should consider projects in the Territory and submit an Expression of Interest for water infrastructure project funding.
“All Territorians know how important water infrastructure is to our region and this expanded funding will help increase water reliability and security for farmers, businesses and communities across the NT,” Senator Scullion said.
“I am proud the CLP is backing communities in the Territory and putting funds on the table to invest in our water infrastructure to give the Territory every chance to grow and prosper.”
“Only the Country Liberals can be trusted to manage the economy, guarantee essential services such as important water infrastructure while getting the budget back into surplus and paying down Labor’s debt.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the more than $1.3 billion nationwide investment would enhance water security and unlock the huge economic potential of rural and regional Australia.
“The Liberal and Nationals Government knows that if our regions have access to secure water our towns prosper and our agricultural industries thrive. That is why this Government is investing in water infrastructure heralding a new era for our regional communities and our regional economics,” Mr McCormack said.
“We are not afraid to put our regional communities first and deliver the water infrastructure they expect and deserve – but it is absolutely essential for state and territory governments to get on board, too to ensure projects are delivered.”
Expressions of Interest will be accepted continuously until all funds are committed. Information, guidelines and related forms for the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund are available at https://infrastructure.gov.au/infrastructure/water-infrastructure/nwi-development-fund/.
