Labor’s Power at all Costs Mentality on Display
Labor’s support today for The Greens ‘Trojan Horse’ Territory Rights bill has exposed that the Gillard Labor government will do absolutely anything to retain power, said Senator Scullion today.
“Labor should stand condemned for meekly rolling over in the face of such a blatant assault upon Australia’s political process, said Senator Scullion.
“After today’s performance it is obvious that they would sell their own grandmother if they thought it would keep them in government.
“The Greens bill that is masquerading as a territory rights bill always was just an attempt to get around the Australian constitution and have gay marriage debated in the ACT parliament.
“The coalition moved amendments to the bill that would have prevented the commonwealth executive acting to disallow any bill of a Territory parliament that was consistent with the powers of a state.
“These amendments were rejected by Labor under instruction of The Greens because they would have prevented The Greens introducing gay marriage legislation into the ACT parliament.
“Despite all the warnings provided to Labor that this was the motive for the bill, Labor meekly rolled over to ensure the continued support of The Greens, said Senator Scullion.
“Bob Brown and The Greens are dictating terms to the Gillard Labor government and they are getting away with it just because Labor is so desperate to retain power.
“Today we saw the rights of Territorians not enhanced but rather abused so that The Greens could pursue their radical social agenda, said Senator Scullion.
“The sooner the Territory achieves statehood the better, said Senator Scullion.
“It is outrageous that anyone, especially The Greens, can use the Territories as a pawn in their tactics to dictate Australia’s social policy.
“Worse still was the disgraceful display of a desperate Gillard Labor government not only standing by and watching it happen but actively supporting it, said Senator Scullion.
“The journey to statehood will not be achieved on the back of a squeaky wheeled Green Trojan horse.
