Open Minded Debate Vital When Considering Developments on the Daly
Future development opportunities in the Northern Territory, including any possible developments in the Douglas Daly region, deserve genuine assessment, said Senator Scullion today.
“The Federal Coalition is currently assessing future agricultural opportunities in the north of Australia through a development task force.
“As is quite proper all options are being considered and that includes water resource use and management of the Daly river.
“While Rob Knight tries to relive some kind of past glory days of his youth in protesting dams in Tasmania, the federal coalition is looking at sustainable options that both meet the growing world food needs as well as creating jobs in regional and remote regions of the Territory,” said Senator Scullion.
“The only people desperate to talk about dams on rivers appear to be members of the Labor party and others opposed to any development at all costs.
“One proposal being put forward is to harvest water from our northern rivers in a sustainable way that will encourage and support development including creating job opportunities.
“There may or may not be any development in the Daly River basin but this decision must be made on sound science and environmental research, and not on emotive or political motivated rhetoric,” said Senator Scullion.
