PrintScullion supports the Long Walk
Shadow Indigenous Affairs Minister Senator Nigel Scullion said he was delighted to again be a part of “The Long Walk” event last weekend.
“The Long Walk charity started after former AFL player Michael Long attended an Indigenous funeral and decided to make a trek from Melbourne to Canberra in 2004 to help raise awareness of the plight of his people, also meeting with then Prime Minister John Howard at the end of the first Long Walk,” Senator Scullion.
“Michael Long has since created his charity The Long Walk that raises awareness to improve and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and life opportunities.”
This year’s event set a new record for attendance.
“As I walked into the MCG I looked back and saw the huge line of supporters winding far back from the MGC all the way to the start of the walk.
“I congratulate Michael for his leadership and The Long Walk organisers for providing an opportunity for Australians to demonstrate their support to closing the gap,” Senator Scullion said.
“All money raised helps the programs run by “The Long Walk” charity and I encourage all Australians to help them continue their good work in helping our First Australians to a better future by donating to the Long Walk at the following link:
