Joint Media Release with Country Liberals Candidate for Lingiari Jacinta Nampijinpa Price
Vital upgrades to the Nganmarriyanga (Palumpa) Airport Road are complete which will bring major benefits to the community, Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, announced.
“The upgrades to the Nganmarriyanga Airport Road included re-sealing of bitumen and delivers all weather access to the airstrip in a community that is regularly flooded every wet season as well as having major access via Port Keats Road cut during the wet,” Senator Scullion said.
Senator Scullion said the CLP had invested $962,000 into the upgrades via the Roads to Recovery Program with funding of $787,000 and Black Spot Program funds of $175,000.
CLP Candidate for Lingiari, Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, said with the Country Liberals was investing in better remote infrastructure in the bush.
“This CLP investment has improved the safety and reliability of this critical road with the completion of this road upgrade meaning emergency responses and medical assistance is now possible year round. It also means better food security for the residents of Nganmarriyanga with more regular air freight services being available to re-stock the local store,” Ms Price said.
“The Nganmarriyanga Causeway was also upgraded as part of this project and had previously proven very unsafe to drivers and pedestrians. The upgrade works have delivered major improvements including guard rails and solar
lighting, making it more accessible to residents and service providers.
“West Daly Regional Council also upgraded the community internal roads at the same time through another allocation of $494,000, which was also funded by the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Program.”
The Nganmarriyanga Airport Road upgrade project was a joint Commonwealth-NT Government project with NT Government funding of $938,000 from their Improving Strategic Local Roads Infrastructure Program.
