Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, has welcomed news that the roll-out of NBN access to premises in the NT has been completed.
“Residents and businesses in Darwin, Palmerston, Nhulunbuy, Katherine, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek have access to superfast broadband,” Senator Scullion said.
“Remote and rural people have internet access through the Sky Muster Satellite service.”
“More than 87,300 homes and business in the Northern Territory are now ready to receive a service and more than 43,000 are connected to the network.
“The network has now reached one third of Australian premises and is on track to cover half of the country by June 2017.
“Across the country, more than four million Australian homes and businesses are now able to order a service over the NBN.”
Senator Scullion said the roll-out in regional Australia had progressed well.
“More than half—52 per cent—of all premises outside major urban areas can now order a service on the network. At the beginning of January, 70 per cent of regional premises were either ready for service or under construction,” Senator Scullion said.
“This is great news for regional areas that can now access more of the benefits of high speed broadband.”
Territorians looking forward to being connected to the NBN network can check nbn’s website for information at www.nbnco.com.au.
