Indigenous sports and social programmes in Shepparton will receive a significant boost through a new electronic scoreboard at Rumbalara Football and Netball Club’s home ground.
Minister for Indigenous Affairs and Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, said today he had recently approved funding of $120,000 for the Rumbalara Football and Netball Club to purchase a new electronic scoreboard at Rumbalara Football Oval.
The Rumbalara Football and Netball Club has a close association with the Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative.
“Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative is a vital service provider in the Shepparton region and I already fund it to deliver healthy lifestyle programmes and an Indigenous Youth Mobility Programme,” Senator Scullion said.
“The new scoreboard will not only enable spectators to keep across scores, but will help the Rumbalara Football and Netball Club to promote healthy lifestyles and community safety through the projection of electronic messages.
“Improving community safety, getting more kids to school and supporting healthier lifestyles are some of the Coalition’s key priorities in Indigenous Affairs and the Rumbalara Football and Netball Club is a key organisation we have partnered with to deliver this in Shepparton.”
The $120,000 is a one-off grant funded under the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS).
