Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion, has welcomed the decision of the Gunner Government to continue investment in infrastructure to support tourism in Katherine.
“I am pleased that the Gunner Government has listened to the concerns raised by Territorians and will now reinstate the funding originally allocated by the Country Liberals to tourism assets in Katherine,” Senator Scullion said.
“Despite the opposition from Ms Sandra Nelson MLA, local member of the Gunner Government for Katherine, I am pleased that the Chief Minister has reinstated this investment in tourism infrastructure.
“Tourism is one of the most important industries for the Northern Territory economy and because of the policies and investment of the Country Liberals – we have seen a 29 per cent increase on domestic tourist numbers to the Top End.
“I look forward to working with the Gunner Government and continuing the strong focus on tourism that has delivered new jobs and business growth for Territorians.
“The decision to reinstate funding for Katherine is a great Christmas present for the Northern Territory and I hope that 2017 is a year where the Gunner Government focuses more on investments in jobs and business, rather than cuts to important projects.
