Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory Nigel Scullion has praised the people of Tenant Creek and the Barkly for standing up against Warren Snowdon’s terrible decision to close the Tennant Creek Weather radar and forcing Julia Gillard to reverse the decision.
“Due to the pressure from Mike Nash and other residents of the Barkley, and from Tina McFarlane the Country Liberals candidate for Lingiari and Luke Bowen from the NT Cattlemen’s Association, the Barkly has its radar back,” Senator Scullion said.
“If not for the work of this coalition of the willing, this essential community infrastructure would have been bulldozed.
“Tina McFarlane has shown how she can get things done for the people of the Barkly, and all the constituents in Lingiari, demonstrating how effective she is in her role as a candidate.
“The decision to re-open the weather radar at Tennant Creek is plain common sense as it is vital for travel around this remote area as well as weather information for the large cattle stations and for medical emergency flights. It is a great shame that this vital service had been cut off by Warren Snowdon,” Senator Scullion said.
