The former CEO of Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) Mr Ron Morony wrote to the Board of IBA on 17 March 2010 raising serious concerns about poor governance and bad practices.
Because this is a Commonwealth Statutory Authority responsible for managing large sums of money I have been seeking a copy of the letter from IBA through Senate Estimates for more than a year.
After much stalling from IBA, the letter was finally tabled at Senate Estimates last week . The letter touches on concerns I have had with IBA over the last 2 years.
While IBA has attempted to re-butt Mr Morony’s statements I was left with the impression that the former CEO was genuinely frustrated at governance issues in the Board.
I think it is time for a very close look at the operations and governance of IBA, and I wrote to Minister Macklin to appoint a retired judge to do just that. I am still waiting for a response. Good governance in Indigenous affairs is not a priority for this Government.
A copy of Mr Morony’s letter and IBA’s response can be found at the following page in the Tabled Documents section towards the bottom of the page: http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate_Committee…
